Trichodiadema densum One of the only woody caudiciform Mesembs! Fairly uncommonly offered. This plant forms soft bendable branches with flaky bark and fleshy green leaves. Over time the base and the roots become large and swollen. When it gets larger you can raise the plant so that the upper parts of the roots are exposed, giving a very attractive caudiciform look (see last picture). The branches will become long and droopy, but you can prune it regularly to better show off the roots. Easy to grow. Give good light and well drained soil. Water when the soil is nearly dry. Produces lots of pink to purple flowers in the spring, but usually produces at least some flowers all growing season. Protect from frost.
