Huernia stapelioides Family: Apocynaceae (Asclepidaceae). An attractive Stapeliad with papillate, almost hairy dark red and yellow flowers. Stems are squarish with soft prickles. The plant is small but clumps readily. Flowers are most common and numerous in the late summer and fall but can bloom any time of year if happy.   They can take some direct sun, but aren’t full sun plants. These flowers have no strong scent, so you don’t have to worry about it stinking up your house (lots of Stapeliads smell like rotting meat). Takes normal succulent care.  Protect from frost. Keep very dry in the winter unless you have good growing conditions. Stapeliads can be quite rot prone if kept too moist especially in the winter.
